“Sex-worker” is arguably one of the most loaded terms in modern sexuality & gender discussion. It’s a descriptor with wide-ranging connotations and assumptions, from the image of empowered women reclaiming sex as a central element of their personal power, to modern-day Fantines forced into a dangerous, degrading, and all too often fatal, last-resort method of survival.

Like so many other debates in our culture, issues around sex work are often difficult to discuss with nuance. People have a tendency to pick a side of the debate and hold fast to it.

I should point out here that while “sex-worker” isn’t a word …

Last week I went to a spanking class (the things I do in the name of research! Ahem) at Sh! to see what all the 50 shades of fuss was about. The informal class in the basement of the Hoxton boutique was women-only and contrary to my initial fears, we weren’t partnered up and given a good thwacking by a stranger. The staff showed us techniques (from beginners to more advanced), and how to use the different spanking equipment (paddles, crops, floggers etc) on each other – then we were free to try them out. It didn’t feel sordid, silly …

Although no launch date was revealed, Span mentioned the site in her Guardian U.K. column where she wrote about the meteoric popularity of adult star James Deen.

“I am working on a website that aims to tell the public what it is like to consent to working in the various erotic industries and enjoy it. It’s called We Consent, because we do. Our side of the story needs telling. Although Deen and others are doing well, those …

NEW YORK – Last week, TheDirty.com posted a story claiming supermodel and current star of “The Real Housewives of Miami,” Joanna Krupa, had been a high-priced escort who could make $10,000 a night. Krupa and her team immediately and vehemently denied the allegations, and threatened legal action. The story was removed from the site the next day.

Former Manhattan Madam Kristin Davis ran one the most successful high-priced escort services in New York, toting a client list with over 10,000 names until she was busted in 2008. She told FOX411 she did not recognize Krupa as one of the girls that …

Madrid’s largest trade association for luxury escorts yesterday announced the beginning of a total and indefinite strike on sexual services for bank employees until they go back to providing credit to Spanish families, SMEs and companies.

The idea for this strike arose from the experience of Lucia C.P., one of the association’s members, who during the press conference excitedly recounted how one of her regular clients had told her that for months his sole undertaking had been to borrow hundreds of millions of euros from the ECB’s liquidity window at 1% and immediately invest this money in European government debt and …
